Tips on how to best use this web site

  1. It is useful to first examine the areas of assistance that this web site covers and the programs within each section. Use the drop down box on the top left corner to view the various types of assistance (e.g., cash assistance, food programs, tax credits).

  2. Read the overview page for each section and the overview page of programs within a section to see what may be relevant to you.

  3. You should read the written content of a program in some detail to understand what the program is about and to have some idea about eligibility requirements.

  4. If you are a potential consumer of services on this web site and have access to service providers, advocates, or case managers who may be able to aid you in securing needed benefits, you should take advantage of the assistance they may be able to provide. This web site is not intended to replace the useful help that service providers can offer. At the same time, becoming familiar with the types of benefits and services that are potentially available may allow you to communicate more effectively with any professional who might assist you.

  5. Clicking on the NewMexicoResources.org banner at the top of any page will return you to the home page of the web site.

A tragic 20%—or 1 in every 5—of New Mexico families with children under 18 years live in poverty according to the 2000 Census. The 2005 Kids Count data book, an annual publication by the Annie E. Casey Foundation, listed New Mexico as having the highest percentage of children living in poverty of all 50 states. At the same time, programs designed to address the diverse and often dire needs of people with low income are housed in an array of government divisions and bureaucracies.

Recognizing the critical need to provide a central web site containing a repository of information related to these programs, the Central New Mexico Community College (CNM) Foundation has partnered with PNM, Don Chalmers Ford, Univision, and Wells Fargo Bank to create this guide to navigate the complicated and sometimes bewildering process of obtaining vital benefits and resources.
