For more information, click on one of the questions below:
General Assistance is a state government program that provides cash assistance to dependent needy children and disabled adults who are not receiving assistance like New Mexico Works (NMW), also called TANF, or Supplemental Security Income (SSI), or other similar benefits.
Individuals are eligible for General Assistance if they have very little income and resources and do not qualify for other cash assistance programs. You must be a resident of New Mexico and a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen.
The amount of monthly General Assistance cash benefits you will receive depends on income and resources.
To apply for General Assistance, you should call or visit your local Human Services Department (HSD) office. See HSD Office Locations, or call 1-888-473-3676 for more information. You will need proof of identity, income, and expenses.
You will receive your monthly grant through an electronic benefits transfer (EBT) card. With your EBT card, you can withdraw cash at bank ATMs and supermarkets.
