Income-eligible child care is child care provided at a reduced cost to low-income families in New Mexico who are working, in an education or job training program, or a teen parent. Child care is provided for children 6 weeks old up to the month a child turns 13 and older children with special needs. The Office of Children, Youth and Families Department (CYFD) Childcare Services Bureau administers the program and determines eligibility.
To be eligible, you must be working, in school or a training program, or a teen parent and be able to show a need for child care services. Your children must meet the age requirements and your income must be within the program limits. There are three levels of priority when determining eligibility.
Eligible families may be put on a waiting list to receive reduced cost child care. The fee you will pay for child care is based on your income and family size. The number of hours of child care you receive is based on your need for services. You may choose the type of child care that is best for your child.
To get more information or to apply for a placement agreement, you should call or visit your local CYFD Childcare Services Bureau. For the name and address of your local agency, see our CYFD Child Care Service Bureau Office list or call 1-800-832-1321 statewide or 505-827-7499 for the Albuquerque area.
Once you are approved, you will be contacted about how much you will have to pay. You must pay your fees on time and report any changes that might affect your eligibility. There are many child care facilities to help you find the center that is best for you and your child's needs.
