Unemployment Insurance (UI) Profiling Program
NOTE: Glossary words are highlighted. Click on any glossary word to see its definition.

Description:

All Unemployment Insurance (UI) claims are screened to determine who is most likely to need re-employment services to make a successful transition back to the workforce. These services include an initial meeting at a One Stop Career Center and may include referrals to job search assistance and job placement services such as counseling, testing, assessment, job search workshops, referrals to employers, or other re-employment services that assessment may show you could benefit from.

General eligibility:

The New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions (NMDWS) selects from individuals who file for unemployment insurance. If selected you will be sent a letter asking you to report to a mandatory workshop or meeting. The letter will be sent within four weeks from your last check and will give a telephone number to call if you must reschedule.

The UI Profiling Program is mandatory for those individuals selected. If you fail to participate, you may be ineligible for UI benefits. You may be excused from participating if:

  • You live 50 miles or more from your One Stop Career Center.
  • You are in an approved training program.
  • You are currently attending or have recently attended re-employment services.

Benefits:

Waiver of job search requirements: If you are in a job training or academic program, you will not have to look for work while you collect your UI benefits. However, the NMDWS will check to make sure that you enroll and attend classes for your job training program.

Extension of benefits: If your job training or academic program will last beyond the last week of your UI benefits, you can apply for extended benefits.

NOTE: The NMDWS does not pay for your training. It only waives the work search requirement and offers extended UI benefits while you are in the program. If you need financial help, check with a job specialist at your local One-Stop Career Center. You may be eligible for the state Individual Training Account (ITA) funding. You may also qualify fora  scholarship, grant, or loan from your training program or another source.

 Financial eligibility:

There are no financial eligibility requirements for this program.

How to apply:

If you wish to attend but are not selected for the UI Profiling Program, you may attend by calling the One Stop Career Center in your area (See the Workforce Development Centers Location and Telephone Numbers on the NMDWS E-Claims System website). Volunteers will be included on a "space available" basis.
