HEAT New Mexico

HEAT New Mexico is the New Mexico Gas Company's heating assistance fund to help low income families pay their home energy bills. It is administered by the Salvation Army. The fund comes from donations from other New Mexico Gas Company customers, and for every dollar contributed, the New Mexico Gas Company matches $1.50, for a maximum of $150,000 each year. You will need to quailify to receive assistance.
You may be eligible for the HEAT New Mexico program if you are eligible for help from LIHEAP based on income, and if you have already applied for assistance from LIHEAP. Even if you don't qualify for LIHEAP, you may still be able to receive assistance from the HEAT New Mexico program. LIHEAP income guidelines:

NOTE: Even if you did not receive LIHEAP assistance, you may still be eligible for the HEAT New Mexico program.
Special considerations may apply if there has been extenuating circumstances such as:
- hospitalization of a family member
- recent loss of a job
Every New Mexico Gas Company customer can contribute money to the HEAT New Mexico program.
There are three ways of contributing money to the fund:
- You can contribute monthly by including a donation in your monthly bill from the New Mexico Gas Company. Make a notation that the extra amount is for the HEAT New Mexico Fund. You choose the amount you want to donate every month and it will be included in the total amount due each month.
- Round-up option: Your bill will be rounded up monthly and the extra will be contibuted to the fund. Complete a pledge form to do this (Note: link opens a PDF). For example:
- A bill amount of $42.17 will be rounded to $43.00 and the extra $0.83 will be donated to the fund.

You should first apply for energy assistance through LIHEAP. Even if you do not receive this assistance, you could still get assistance through the HEAT New Mexico program. Applications are processed beginning January 1st. Funds are limited so it is best to apply early.
You will need the following information when you apply:

A current bill (30 to 60 days past due)
