The New Mexico Energy $mart Program provides low-income homeowners assistance to improve the energy efficiency of their homes. When home efficiency is increased, the yearly energy cost is reduced. You must qualify to receive this assistance. Priority is given to the lowest income households.
NM Energy $mart Program assistance is for low-income tenants and homeowners. To be eligible for the Energy $mart Program you must be at or below 200% of the federal poverty level.
The amount of assistance you will receive is based on points according to household size, income, and the number of children, seniors, and/or household members with disabilities that live in the home. Some benefits that you could receive are: repair or replacement of broken glass, weather-stripping, exterior doors, and smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
You should apply for the NM Energy $mart Program through your local community agency. You will need documentation of your income and energy costs when you apply.
