What is TAX HELP New Mexico? 

TAX HELP New Mexico is a free tax return preparation service for individuals whose income is $50,000 or less, or who are 65 or older. 


Who administers the program?

Central New Mexico Community College (CNM) founded the TAX HELP program 34 years ago as a means of giving accounting students practical experience in preparing tax returns while serving a community need. The program has expanded to include locations statewide. The program is sponsored by the Internal Revenue Service, New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department, McCune Charitable Trust, Univision, and Wells Fargo. 


Where can I find a TAX HELP location?

TAX HELP partners with community entities across the state, including organizations in Albuquerque, Bernalillo, Carlsbad, Clovis, Espanola, Farmington, Gallup, Grants, Jal, Jemez, Laguna, Las Vegas, Lordsburg, Los Lunas, Roswell, Sandia Park, Santa Fe, Silver City, Tatum, Tucumcari, and Zuni. Locations and hours are available online


What do I need to bring with me?

You will need the following documents (as applicable to your situation):

  • Social security cards for yourself, spouse, and dependents
  • Birth dates
  • Form W-2 wage and tax statements from your employer
  • Bank document with a routing number and account number for direct deposit of any refund you may receive
  • A statement from your child care provider with the amount paid during the year, and with the name, address, and tax number of the provider if you are claiming child and dependent care expenses
  • List of all itemized deductible expenses
  • Form W-2G for gambling winnings
  • Form SSA-1099 for Social Security benefits
  • Records of any other income received
