What are Transit Authorities?

The Red Apple Transit, under the direction of the City of Farmington, is the agency in charge of public transportation services within the Farmington, Aztec, Bloomfield, and Kirtland city limits.


Will a bus get me where I need to go?

Most major streets in Farmington, Aztec, Bloomfield, and Kirtland have bus service. Below is a list of a few places the bus routes usually serve:

Farmington:

  • Walmart/Sam's Club
  • Animas Valley Mall
  • Orchard Plaza
  • San Juan College
  • Social Security Office
  • Civic Center
  • Library
  • Smith's
  • Airport
  • West Walmart
  • West Safeway

Aztec:

  • Safeway
  • Westside Plaza
  • Flora Vista Circle K
  • Animas Village Apartments

Bloomfield:

  • San Juan Regional Medical Ambulance Station
  • Bloomfield Cultural Center

NOTE: All transfers in the City of Farmington are free.

Cost of Monthly Passes:

  • In Farmington:
    • $30.00 for adults
    • $15.00 for senior citizens, those with disabilities, Medicare/Medicaid card holders, students, and children
  • Outside Farmington city limits:
    • $60.00 for adults
    • $30.00 for senior citizens, those with disabilities, Medicare/Medicaid card holders, students, and children

Where can I buy a pass?

You can purchase monthly passes from the following locations:

What are the hours of operation and closure dates?

Regular Business Hours:

  • Monday through Saturday 7am - 6pm

Closed on the following days:

  • New Year's Day
  • Martin Luther King Day
  • President's Day
  • Good Friday
  • Memorial Day
  • 4th of July
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

What services are available for people with disabilities?

All Red Apple Transit buses have wheelchair lifts and other special devices to help people with limited mobility. If you need the help of an attendant while traveling, your attendant will be able to travel with you free of charge. If you are disabled and you are able to travel by bus, you will receive a discounted fare. See Discount Bus Fares.

Dial-A-Ride is an ADA paratransit program available to those that qualify and provides transportation for those that are unable to use the fixed route bus system. See Paratransit Dial-A-Ride. This program is a curb-to-curb service. 24 hour notice is required for all reservation and can be made up to 30 days in adance. This service is only available within Farmington city limits. Call 505-325-3409 to make reservations.

 TDD service is now available for those with speech and hearing impairments through the telephone system at 505-325-3409.


What services are available for senior citizens?

Senior citizens receive discounted fares when using regular fixed route buses. See Discount Bus Fares.

Senior citizens may also request the Dial-A-Ride service which is a curb-to-curb service. See Dial-A-Ride.


General rules and information for a pleasant ride

  • Try to be at your bus stop 5 minutes early.
  • Stay seated until the bus comes to a complete stop.
  • Watch your step while boarding and exiting.
  • No smoking, eating, or drinking.
  • Do not talk to the driver while the bus is in motion.
  • No loud music.
  • Do not block aisles with strollers, bags, or carts.
  • Only service animals are allowed.
  • No firearms.

Boarding the bus:

  • Have the exact change ready when boarding.
  • If you need a transfer, let the driver know when you board.
  • Move to the rear of the crowded bus.
  • Seats at the fronts are for seniors and those with disabilities.
  • Wait until all passengers are off before boarding the bus.

NOTE: All Red Apple Transit buses are equipped with bike racks and wheelchair lifts.
