CASH ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS
for residents of New Mexico

Cash assistance programs offer financial support and medical benefits to New Mexico low-income families, elders, and the disabled. Some cash assistance programs also provide education and job training to help eligible families and individuals become self-sufficient.

Temporary Aid to Needy Families (TANF)

TANF is a government program that gives cash assistance and medical coverage to low-income families with dependent children. TANF is sometimes called "welfare" or "public assistance." You must have a child or be pregnant to qualify for TANF, and you must have little income. Many families must also meet work and school requirements to receive TANF cash assistance.

Supplemental Security Income (SSI)

SSI is a need-based cash assistance program that gives help to New Mexico elders age 65 or older, and adults or children who are blind or disabled. SSI is for people with limited income and resources. It is a government program run by the Social Security Administration. Use the online SSI Eligibility Check to see if you might qualify for benefits.
